Best Family Resort in Phuket – Striking Gold in Mai Khao Beach
Finding the best family resort in Phuket was no mean feat. We stay in a lot of hotels, in fact throughout the winter we live full time in guest houses, hotels and resorts around the world. As a family we have spent many hours discussing what our ultimate holiday resort would look like.
Ultimate family beach resort.
We all have our own individual wish list for the perfect beach resort – private beach access, outdoor sports, fun activities for the kids with and without mom and dad, easy access to activities off site and so on.We have had some pretty amazing stays, but nothing has come close to our recent experience at the Holiday Inn Mai Khao Beach.
Finding The Best Family Resort in Phuket
Situated within the protected area of Sirinat National Park, Mai Khao is one of the least developed areas of Phuket, offering up a blissfully crowd-free beach that stretches on for miles. Perfectly positioned to watch the sunset over the sparkling Andaman Sea, the resort provides a tranquil tropical getaway within easy reach of Phuket’s main tourist attractions.
Family Suite with pool access
The Holiday Inn Resort offers two different room categories that are perfect for families – Each offers a separate space for kids, with special décor and fun facilities, including a games console, toys, bean bags and a TV and DVD player. Parents also have their own spacious room with en suite bathroom, flat-screen TV with satellite channels and DVD player, free wired and wireless Internet and a furnished balcony.
Family Suites are two separate rooms linked by a connecting door. Measuring 82-square-metre suites in total, these suites keep everyone in the family happy, providing parents with their own deluxe room and kids with a special themed space. The kids’ room features lots of special extras: vanity counter, games console, bright, fun décor, bean bags, kids’ fun linen and various games and toys.
Keeping The Kids Entertained
At the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket Mai Khao Beach, there is everything you need on-site for a fun-filled stay, whether you want to relax or stay active. There are cooking classes, batik-painting, cake decorating, Muay Thai classes and popcorn movie nights. There is also a schedule of group activities the whole family can enjoy, including beach volleyball, water polo and Thai language classes.
More than 100 activities on offer
there is something to suit everyone and every budget! The activities were a big hit with our kids. We did our best to try out as many as possible:
Hand Painting Traditional Thai Umbrellas
Learning How To Tie Dye
Thai Cookery Class
Testing Out Their Mocktail Making Skills
We also spent several hours sea kayaking, took a guided bicycle tour around Mai Khao town and had a family spa experience at the Tea Tree Spa. We packed a lot into our stay at this family resort!
Family Dining Options
Breakfast is an immense experience at this family resort, we were overwhelmed by the sheer choice of food on offer at the buffet in J’s Café & Restaurant. Our kids were delighted with the freshly cooked pancakes and waffles, accompanied by a hefty helping of fresh fruits.
Lunch can either be taken a la carte in J’s Café & Restaurant or from the snack menu at the swim up pool bar.
Dinner can be taken buffet style at J’s, or a la carte at Pesto’s, located beach side. We tried both (you will put on weight, trust me) and found them to be special in their own ways. The buffet was a selection of delicious fayre from around South East Asia, with lots of it cooked fresh to order whilst you watched.
Options included Vietnamese slow roasted belly pork, Oysters, Shrimp and spicy Thai salads. Nothing like some of the luke warm, re-hashed dishes we have experienced in other family resorts around the world.
At Pesto’s we were treated to sirloin steaks, racks of lamb and a range of seasonal vegetables. All cooked in the open plan kitchen, whilst we enjoyed the view of the sun setting over the beach and listened to the wonderful live music. I would be happy to eat at Pesto’s every day for the rest of my life!
One of the best things about staying at a Holiday Inn Family Resort is that kids under 12 eat free, leaving you more money to spend on fun, family activities….or cocktails.
Service & Hospitality
The service that we received from all of the staff at the Holiday Inn Mai Khao Beach was absolutely first class, they could not have done more to make our experience more memorable. We have found that Thai people are generally very fond of children, but at this resort the staff went out of their way to ensure that our kids were happy.
The staff alone make this the best family resort in Phuket.
